The Gallery

About Harvey Gallery

The Harvey Gallery came into being in September 1979, the brainchild of the then Head of the Visual Arts Department. Initial funding came from the Adult Education Centre, whose Principal saw the potential of a student-run, student-supported gallery. It was created with the assistance of students and staff alike. Since that time the Gallery has held 15 exhibitions each year, covering a wide variety of visual arts. Very early on it earned a reputation for innovation, actively encouraging first-time exhibitors, as well as practising artists. The Gallery continues to this day to be a showcase not only for professional artists, but also for local students venturing into the world of displaying their talents, a facility not available in most adult learning establishments. We celebrated our Silver Jubilee in 2004.

Besides the exhibition space itself (click here to see a Floor Plan) (an ideal size room for such a facility, well lit and easy to circulate in) the Gallery has the advantages of an adjacent coffee bar, direct level access from the Harvey Road, disabled parking outside, and reduced-rate parking nearby. The free Guildford Shuttle Bus also stops a short walk away.

The Harvey Gallery is managed by a committee of volunteers drawn from visual arts students and staff, who contribute their time, skill and experience to running the Gallery and maintaining its high standards and artistic reputation. The Committee realises that not everyone appreciates how communal and accessible the Gallery is, and are continually striving to raise its profile amongst the student body.
